Experience
Multiculturality became a part of my high school life when I moved to Tripoli with my parents. Living in such a different culture doesn’t leave us indifferent – we either become fascinated or discouraged by it. For me, it’s become a fascination that has lasted for almost thirty years.
I was able to develop my competencies thanks to my first teacher, a Finnish woman, who was also the head of a Finnish consulting company.
Subsequent courses and projects allowed me to build my own know-how and implement projects in intercultural management, combining knowledge about diversity and various organisations.
One of my first training projects in a manufacturing company made me realise the impact culture had on the perception and implementation of quality guidelines. All standards must not only be precisely and understandably described but also embedded in the context of a given culture and workplace. In such situations, it is necessary to conduct workshops to demonstrate the impact of the behaviour of various departments on maintaining quality.
Individual sessions with expats are a never-ending lesson on how the perception of planning, long-term and short-term thinking, affects the work of the entire company.
Do we plan carefully first, assessing all risks, or do we act according to the overall plan and polish the details in the process?
